The conversation between Harsha and me started casually this evening. We were talking the usual stuff, F1, politics in my state and the US investment in his. Then I spoke to him about Cintia’s post in our latest blog. From there it took off to a completely new direction. Sharing a secret is one thing, but sharing it with someone you call a friend has a totally different meaning to it. So, who would you call a friend? Frankly, I don’t know. I have so many people who I can call my friends but I don't know who a friend is! This is most amazing for me 'coz I'm an engineer and we like to associate logic and reasoning to everything that we come across. How could a thing exist without a definition? Nah!!!
So I set out to define 'friend' or at the least find out the 'properties' that a friend must have. For me someone I'm totally comfortable with at anytime is a friend. But, how do I define comfort now? Is it not something that we just feel? Or a state in which we find ourselves which we may associate with happiness. And then we have 'happiness'! I guess the list just goes on and on.
And what difference does sharing a secret make to the special bond of friendship? Well, to me it just means one thing; I TRUST YOU. So, does it mean that the more sacred the secret, the stronger is the trust? Again, I don't know! When you share your past, present, your thoughts, your food, your feelings, the things that you hold dear to you, you move closer to your friend. And sharing a secret is like opening up a window to your friend who can look into the 'you' that is not known to the world. Everything said and done, I feel that a close friend would never have to wait for you to tell him secrets and things; he/she would just know them!
Still, the most interesting observation is that the person who knows all about you is either your dearest friend or your nastiest enemy!
I thought of making a better effort to find out the things that really matter. If you read this post then do go through the link given below and let me understand your take on this issue in a more effective way, by answering a few questions. Be frank and honest, your identity would be kept a secret.
